چکیده
Mucoid enteropathy/epizootic rabbit enteropathy is a disease of domestic European rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) that has been recognized for nearly 50 years but still not well understood. Morbidity and mortality are high can lead to large losses in production facilities. A transactivator function of cottontail rabbit papillomavirus e2 is essential for tumor induction in rabbits.
Infection of domestic rabbits with cottontail rabbit papillomavirus (CRPV) causes local papillomas which progress to carcinomas in more than 80% of cases. This animal model system therefore allows the identification of molecular mechanisms required for the induction and progression of epithelial tumors. The viral E2 protein stimulates both viral DNA replication and transcription, and these func...

Cottontail rabbit papillomavirus (CRPV)-induced papillomas progress at a high frequency to carcinomas and thus can serve as a model for high-cancer-risk human papillomavirus infection. Previously, we have shown that antibodies to nonstructural and structural proteins are detected in only a fraction of papilloma-bearing animals. However, the antibody response to structural proteins drastically i...
