Movement Patterns of Resident and Translocated Beavers at Multiple Spatiotemporal Scales in Desert Rivers

چکیده
Wildlife translocations alter animal movement behavior, so identifying common patterns post-translocation will help set expectations about behavior in subsequent efforts. American and Eurasian beavers ( Castor canadensis; fiber ) are frequently translocated for reintroductions, to mitigate human-wildlife conflict, as an ecosystem restoration tool. However, little is known of post-release, especially desert rivers with patchy dynamic resources. We identified space-use beaver after translocation. monitored nuisance river sites on the Price San Rafael Rivers, Utah, USA, compared their space use resident tracking both across 2 years. Resident adult (RA) were detected at a mean maximum distance 0.86 ± 0.21 kilometers (km; ±1 SE), while subadult (RS) (11.00 4.24 km), (TA) (19.69 3.76 (TS) (21.09 5.54 km) substantially greater distances. Based coarse-scale models, RS moved farther from release faster than RA up 6 months post-release. In contrast, fine-scale models using 5-min location intervals showed similar median traveled between beavers. Our findings suggest day-to-day activities, such foraging resting, largely unaltered by translocation, but exhibited most dispersal RSs. Coarse-scale rates decreased time since release, suggesting that adjusted novel environment over eventually settled into home range Understanding response system can future beaver-assisted efforts identify appropriate strategies.

Multiple movement modes by large herbivores at multiple spatiotemporal scales.
Recent theory suggests that animals should switch facultatively among canonical movement modes as a complex function of internal state, landscape characteristics, motion capacity, and navigational capacity. We tested the generality of this paradigm for free-ranging elk (Cervus elaphus) over 5 orders of magnitude in time (minutes to years) and space (meters to 100 km). At the coarsest spatiotemp...
متن کاملA test of spatial memory and movement patterns of bumblebees at multiple spatial and temporal scales
Naive bumblebee foragers appear to use movement rules at small spatial and temporal scales, but it is not clear whether these rules determine movement patterns as the scales increase. One strategy for efficient foraging used by bumblebees is near-far search, involving short flights when in good patches of flowers and longer flights when in poor patches. Bumblebees also demonstrate the use of a ...
متن کاملFishery Discards Impact on Seabird Movement Patterns at Regional Scales
Human fishing activities are negatively altering marine ecosystems in many ways [1, 2], but scavenging animals such as seabirds are taking advantage of such activities by exploiting fishery discards [3-5]. Despite the well-known impact of fisheries on seabird population dynamics [6-10], little is known about how discard availability affects seabird movement patterns. Using scenarios with and wi...

although there are studies on pragmatic assessment, to date, literature has been almost silent about native and non-native english raters’ criteria for the assessment of efl learners’ pragmatic performance. focusing on this topic, this study pursued four purposes. the first one was to find criteria for rating the speech acts of apology and refusal in l2 by native and non-native english teachers...
