Morphophysiological Responses of Oat (Avena sativa L.) Genotypes from Pakistan’s Semiarid Regions to Salt Stress

چکیده
Soil salinity is a major constraint to modern agriculture, with around 20% of the previously irrigated area becoming salt affected. Identifying suitable stress-tolerant genotypes based on their agronomic and physiological traits remains herculean challenge in forage-type Oat (Avena sativa L.) breeding. The present study was designed investigate response oat crop plants against (NaCl) stress Mardan, Pakistan. experiment carried out complete randomized design (CRD) two factors trail comprising performance four different (NARC oat, PARC Green Gold Islamabad oat) levels saline (0, 25, 50 75 mmol L-1 NaCl). Plant growth parameters including germination (G, %); fresh shoot weight (FSW, g); root (FRW, chlorophyll-a, chlorophyll-b, total chlorophyll, carotenoids were analyzed for identifying tolerance. Germination (%) negatively affected by higher stress. Mean values showed that maximum (57.5%) recorded control while minimum (48.75%) 25 NaCl (58%) oat. all declined increasing stress, NARC considerably than other genotypes. Although chlorophyll found be concentrations, performed better at when compared Based mean dry ratio ± one standard error, categorized as salt-tolerant (Green Gold), moderately tolerant (PARC NARC), salt-sensitive (Islamabad). more genotype Gold) demonstrated relatively high tolerance may useful developing high-yielding hybrids future breeding programs under conditions.

Mechanisms of oat (Avena sativa L.) acclimation to phosphate deficiency
Background Deficiency of available forms of phosphorus is common in most soils and causes reduction of crop plants growth and yield. Recently, model plants responses to phosphate (Pi) deficiency have been intensively studied. However, acclimation mechanisms of cereals like oat (Avena sativa L.), to low Pi stress remains not fully understood. Oat plants have been usually cultured on poor soils, ...

متن کاملHay yield and quality of oat (Avena sativa L.) genotypes of worldwide origin
Oat (Avena sativa L.) traditionally has been a major crop for feed and forage in Turkey. Theobjective of this research was to study hay yield and quality of oat genotypes harvested at thelate milk stage. One hundred oat varieties of worldwide origin were compared in fieldexperiments in Samsun (northern Turkey) over two growing seasons (2007-2008 and 2008-2009).Significant differences between th...
متن کاملSome Properties of Phytochrome Isolated From Dark-grown Oat Seedlings (Avena sativa L.).
Phytochrome was partially purified from etiolated seedlings of Avena sativa L. Several properties of the red-absorbing (P(R)) and far-red absorbing (P(FR)) forms of the pigment were compared. The 2 forms could not be shown to differ with respect to their sedimentation velocity in sucrose density gradients, elution volume from Sephadex G-200 columns, binding properties on calcium phosphate, or e...
