چکیده
Abstract We present a study of barred galaxies in the cluster environment, exploiting sample drawn from extended WIde-field Nearby Galaxy-cluster Survey (OmegaWINGS) that covers up to outer regions 32 local X-ray selected clusters. Barred are identified through semiautomatic analysis ellipticity and position angle profiles. find, agreement with previous studies, strong codependence bar fraction galaxy stellar mass morphological type, being maximum for massive late-type galaxies. Gas-driven Evolution of Stellar Orbits in Barred Galaxies
We carry out a detailed orbit analysis of gravitational potentials selected at different times from an evolving self-consistent model galaxy consisting of a two-component disk (stars+gas) and a live halo. The results are compared with a pure stellar model, subject to nearly identical initial conditions, which are chosen as to make the models develop a large scale stellar bar. The bars are also ...

A strong bar rotating within a massive halo should lose angular momentum to the halo through dynamical friction, as predicted by Weinberg. We have conducted fully self-consistent, numerical simulations of barred galaxy models with a live halo population and find that bars are indeed braked very rapidly. Specifically, we find that the bar slows sufficiently within a few rotation periods that the...
متن کاملDynamical Evolution of Barred Galaxies
Angular momentum redistribution within barred galaxies drives their dynamical evolution. Angular momentum is emitted mainly by near-resonant material in the bar region and absorbed by resonant material mainly in the outer disc and in the halo. This exchange determines the strength of the bar, the decrease of its pattern speed, as well as its morphology. If the galaxy has also a gaseous componen...
متن کاملSecular Evolution in Barred Galaxies: Observations
This paper describes a framework for studying galaxy morphology, particularly bar strength, in a quantitative manner, and presents applications of this approach that reveal observational evidence for secular evolution in bar morphology. The distribution of bar strength in galaxies is quite strongly bimodal, suggesting that barred and unbarred systems are distinct entities, and that any evolutio...

We use new models of stellar population synthesis to estimate the fraction of stars formed during the last major bursts of star formation in E/S0 galaxies in low-redshift clusters (z ∼ < 0.4) from the spectral signatures of intermediate-age stars. We find that the mass fraction of stars formed in late bursts in early-type galaxies in clusters must have decreased smoothly with redshift, from abo...
