Abstract. Windiyani IP, Mahfut, Purnomo, Daryono BS. 2022. Morphological variations of superior sugarcane cultivars (Saccharum officinarum) from Lampung, Indonesia. Biodiversitas 23: 4110-4117. Sugarcane officinarum L.) is the main crop for producing sugar and various industries. The need continuously increasing as population grows diverse demands industrial needs. One efforts to increase production by developing high-yielding varieties. In doing so, performing morphological characterization necessary so that can be identified. This study aimed determine phenetic relationships crosses collections PT. Gunung Madu Plantation in observation 15 was carried out on 37 characters covering leaves, leaf midrib, internodes, stems, eyes, agronomical aspects. dendrogram built using UPGMA cluster Gower’s General Similarity Coefficient algorithm, while PCA analysis performed Euclidean Distance algorithm MVSP v.3.1 software. results showed there were fairly high among observed. GMP (i.e., 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7) not one due differences between each parent. principal component total variation axis I contributed 27.62% with an eigenvalue 0.25, II 17.9% 0.16. information about this suggests taxonomic evidence are very good identifying analyzing local cultivar knowing closeness their kinship relationships.

Phytochemical contents and antioxidant capacities of different parts of two sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) cultivars.

Antioxidant capacities and phytochemicals such as phenolics, flavonoids, triterpenoids, phytosterols of four parts of two sugarcane cultivars have been characterised. The total triterpenoid content (TTC), total phenolic content (TPC), total flavonoid content (TFC) and total sterol content (TSC) were different among parts and cultivars of sugarcane. The node of both cultivars contained the highe...

Cloning, expression and characterization of sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) transketolase.

Pentose phosphate pathway (PPP) composed of two functionally-connected phases, the oxidative and non-oxidative phase. Both phases catalysed by a series of enzymes. Transketolase is one of key enzymes of non-oxidative phase in which transfer two carbon units from fructose-6-phosphate to erythrose-4-phosphate and convert glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate to xylulose-5-phosphate. In plant, erythrose-4-ph...

Tissue Culture Strategies in Sugarcane (saccharum Officinarum L.)

Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) has wide range of economic importance due to its major and by-products. Seed multiplication of newly released varieties of sugarcane is one of the major constraints. Once a desired clone is identified, it usually takes 6-7 years to produce sufficient quality of improved seed material. This long duration causes a major bottleneck in breeding programmes. For t...

Line x tester analysis in sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum)

Combining ability variances and effects were estimated for important agronomic and biochemical traits in sugarcane using line x tester mating design. Five commercially grown varieties and one line from germplasm collection were involved in this study of which three were used as females (lines) and three as males (testers). The six agronomic characters studied were number of millable stalk per s...

Genetic diversity and relationships in native Hawaiian Saccharum officinarum sugarcane.

Commercial sugarcane hybrid cultivars currently in production are high-yielding, disease-resistant, millable canes and are the result of years of breeding work. In Hawaii, these commercial hybrids are quite distinct from many Saccharum officinarum canes still in existence that were brought to the islands and cultivated by the native Polynesians. The actual genetic relationships among the native...
