Morphological, biochemical, and bioactive characterization of naturally grownEuropean cranberrybush genotypes

Turkey has very rich potential in terms of wild edible fruit species, especially berries that grow naturally different parts the country as population or scattered shrubs. One most important fruits found Turkey's flora is European cranberrybush (EC). All EC plants are nature and there no commercial orchards country. In this study, a total 22 seed propagated genotypes grown Akk??la district Kayseri province located middle part were assessed their morphological (fruit dimensions, weight, number per cluster, cluster weight) biochemical (soluble solids content, pH, organic acids), bioactive (total phenolic flavonoid antioxidant activity) content order to determine superior ones. Fruit width, length, varied from 8.66 11.19 mm, 9.08 11.11 0.27 0.80 g, 8.50 55.20 23.00 81.40, respectively. Malic acid was dominant all investigated (12.177 g L-1 average genotypes), followed by citric (1.605 L-1), oxalic (0.776g ascorbic (65.18 mg 100 mL-1), acids, stable could not be determined, while chlorogenic come fore 17 main acid, gallic highest 4 protocatechuic remained 1 genotype values these acids 27.05 L-1, 23.50 16.50 Results indicated have variable morphological, biochemical, traits select cultivar candidates for future use at cultivation conditions. It also characterization will add value germplasm enhancement Turkey.
