چکیده

Abiotic stresses such as drought, heat, cold, nutrient deficiency, excess salt and hazardous metals can hamper plantgrowth development. Intensive agriculture of only a few major staple food crops that are sensitive intolerant to environmental has led an agrarian crisis. On the other hand, nutritionally rich, gluten free stress tolerant plants like millets neglected underutilized. Millets sustain about one-third world’s population show exceptional tolerance various abiotic biotic stresses. C4 adapted marginal dry lands arid semi-arid regions, survive low rainfall poor soils. significantly affect plant growth which ultimately results in reduced crop yields. However, adaptation mechanisms have evolved withstand different This review aims at exploring these morphophysiological, biochemical molecular aspects millets. Morphological adaptations include short life span, smallplant height leaf area, dense root system, adjusted flowering time, increased decreased shoot lengths, high tillering, folding. A accumulation osmoprotectants (proline, soluble sugars, proteins) improves hyperosmolarity enhances activity antioxidant enzymes (e.g., Ascorbate peroxidase, Superoxide dismutase, Catalase, Peroxidase) providing defense against oxidative damage. Physiologically, photosynthetic stomatal conductance rates, respiration help them escape from water stress. Molecular upregulation stress-related transcriptional factors, signalling genes, ion transporters, secondary metabolite pathways, receptor kinases, phytohormone biosynthesis antioxidative enzymes. Lack genetic resources hampers improvement several identified characterized genes for be exploited further development millet resilience. will provide with extra characteristic resistance pressures, besides their excellent nutritional value over conventional rice, wheat maize.

Molecular Characteristics and Biochemical Functions of VpPR10s from Vitis pseudoreticulata Associated with Biotic and Abiotic Stresses

Grapes are one of the world's oldest and most important fruit crops. They are of high economic value in many countries, but the susceptibility of the dominant winegrape species Vitis vinifera to fungal disease is a significant problem. The Chinese wild grape species are a rich source of disease-resistance genes and these can be used to discover how disease resistance in V. vinifera grapevines m...

Morpho-physiological and biochemical properties of Carum copticum (L.): effects of salicylic acid

Salicylic acid (SA) is a phenolic compound and its foliar application shows regulatory effects on plants. In this research, Ajowan (Carum copticum) plants were treated with 0, 0.5, and 1 mM SA and proline, total phenol, chlorophylls, carotenoids, soluble sugar, N, P, and K contents were studied. Results showed that application of SA affected both quantitative and qualitative traits of ...

Drought Adaptation in Millets

Millets are major food and feed sources in the developing world especially in the semiarid tropical regions of Africa and Asia. The most widely cultivated millets are pearl mil‐ let [Pennisetum glaucum (L.) R. Br.], finger millet [Eleusine coracana (L.) Gaertn], foxtail millet [Setaria italica (L.) P. Beauvois], Japanese barnyard millet [Echinochloa esculneta (A. Braun) H. Scholz], Indian Barny...

Identification and Expression Analysis of Two Arabidopsis LRR-Protein Encoding Genes Responsive to Some Abiotic Stresses

AbstractTwo Arabidopsis thaliana genes, psr9.2 and psr9.4 appearedto be highly similar to a phosphate-starved induced gene,psr9, isolated from Brassica nigra suspension cells.Sequence analysis classified the encoded polypeptides asmembers of leucine-rich repeat (LRR) proteins superfamily. The sequence of psr9 proteins comprise a unique N-terminalregion e...
