Monopsony in Spatial Equilibrium

چکیده
An emerging labor economics literature studies the consequences of firms exercising market power in local markets. These monopsony models have implications for trends earnings inequality. The extent this is likely to vary across In choosing what live and work in, workers trade off wages, rents amenities. Building on Rosen/Roback spatial equilibrium model, we investigate how existence affects cross-sectional distribution wages cities. We find an employment-weighted elasticity land prices concentration ?0.034?similar Rinz (2018)?s reported compensation concentration. متن کاملLocal Monopsony and Free Riders
In an industry with upstream economies of scale in the distribution of differentiated products to retailers which have monopoly power within separate local market areas, the retailers have an incentive to exert monopsony power due to the divergence between average and marginal costs in the distribution of those inputs. The retailers increase their ability to exert monopsony power by forming coa...
متن کاملClassic Monopsony or New Monopsony? Searching for Evidence in Nursing Labor Markets
Prior studies find that hospitals face upward-sloping RN labor supply, which is taken as evidence of monopsonistic power. But previous research finds little relationship across labor markets between RN wages (relative to alternative wages) and measures of market size or hospital density. This inconsistency might be resolved if “classic” monopsonistic power varies over time owing to demand-suppl...
متن کاملSpatial Equilibrium Models with Gams
This document gives a short introduction into Spatial Equilibrium modeling with GAMS. 1. Intertemporal-Spatial Price Equilibrium Solving spatial equilibrium models by mathematical programming is pioneered by [9],[12], [11], and [13]. One of the most basic forms is the transportation problem, also known as the “Koopmans-Hitchcock” model. An example is found in the GAMS model library in trnsport....
