چکیده
We study the monopolistic competition model with producer-retailer-consumers two-level interaction. The industry is organized according to Dixit–Stiglitz model. retailer only monopolist. A quadratic utility function represents consumer preferences. consider case of retailer's leadership; namely, we two types behavior: and without free entry condition. Earlier, obtained result: increase social welfare and/or surplus, government needs subsidize (not tax!) retailers. In presented paper, develop these results for situation when producer imposes an entrance fee

Optimal taxation with monopolistic competition
This paper studies optimal taxation in a DixitStiglitz model of monopolistic competition. In this setting, taxes may be used as an instrument to o¤set distortions caused by producer markups. Since markups tend to be higher in industries where rms face less elastic demand, tax rates will be pushed lower in these industries. This tends to work against the familiar inverse elasticities intuition...
متن کاملIntroducing Monopolistic Competition into the GTAP Model
This technical paper documents one approach to incorporating monopolistic competition into the GTAP model. In this framework, consumer preferences are heterogeneous, leading to an apparent “love of variety” in the aggregate utility function for each region. The more heterogeneous are preferences, the smaller the elasticity of substitution in the aggregate utility function, and the greater the v...

I analyse free-entry competition between stores and mail order businesses. Consumers purchasing at stores entail distance related transportation costs. Purchase from a mail order business (MOB) involves a fixed cost. Compared to Salop’s model [Salop, S.C., 1979. Monopolistic competition with outside goods. Bell Journal of Economics 10, 141–156], fewer firms are active with free-entry. At most o...

Under what circumstances will a monopolistic competitive market be characterized by too little or too much quality variation? How do excise taxes affect the monopolistic competitive equilibrium? Can an increase in the minimum wage lead firms to employ more workers but cause a reduction in industry wide employment? What will be the multiplier effect of a balancedbudget increase in government tax...
