Monolithically integrated heterodyne optical phase-lock loop with RF XOR phase detector.
We present results for an heterodyne optical phase-lock loop (OPLL), monolithically integrated on InP with external phase detector and loop filter, which phase locks the integrated laser to an external source, for offset frequencies tuneable between 0.6 GHz and 6.1 GHz. The integrated semiconductor laser emits at 1553 nm with 1.1 MHz linewidth, while the external laser has a linewidth less than...
متن کاملMonolithically Integrated Ge-on-Si Active Photonics
Monolithically integrated, active photonic devices on Si are key components in Si-based large-scale electronic-photonic integration for future generations of high-performance, low-power computation and communication systems. Ge has become an interesting candidate for active photonic devices in Si photonics due to its pseudo-direct gap behavior and compatibility with Si complementary metal oxide...
متن کاملIntegrated Microwave Photonics for Wideband Signal Processing
We describe recent progress in integrated microwave photonics in wideband signal processing applications with a focus on the key signal processing building blocks, the realization of monolithic integration, and cascaded photonic signal processing for analog radio frequency (RF) photonic links. New developments in integration-based microwave photonic techniques, that have high potentialities to ...
متن کاملIII−V Compound Semiconductor Nanopillars Monolithically Integrated to Silicon Photonics
We propose a platform based on III−V compound semiconductor nanopillars monolithically integrated with silicon photonics. Nanopillars were grown in a process free of metal catalysts onto silicon at low temperature, and a bottom-up process was applied to define the photonic integrated circuit. Stimulated and spontaneous emissions from the nanopillars are direct coupled to silicon waveguides.

We propose and demonstrate a 1.45GHz bandwidth optical phase-lock loop receiver for linear optical phase demodulation. Using the receiver in a link application, a spurious free dynamic range of 125 dBHz is measured at 300MHz. ©2007 Optical Society of America OCIS codes: (250.3140) Integrated optoelectronic circuits, (060.1660) , Coherent communications (060.5060), Phase modulation, (060.2360) F...
