Monitoring Reversible Tight Junction Modulation with a Current?Driven Organic Electrochemical Transistor

The barrier functionality of a cell layer regulates the passage nutrients into blood. Modulating by external chemical agents like poly-l-lysine (PLL) is crucial for drug delivery. ability to impede ions through it and therefore act as barrier, can be assessed electrically measuring resistance across layer. Here, an organic electrochemical transistor (OECT) used in current-driven configuration evaluation reversible modulation tight junctions Caco-2 cells over time. Exposure low medium concentrations PLL initiates modulation, whereas too high concentration induces irreversible disruption due nonfunctional junction proteins. results demonstrate suitability OECTs situ monitor temporal recovery, which offer valuable information delivery applications.
