Molybdenum isotopes in mafic igneous rocks record slabmantle interactions from subarc to postarc depths

چکیده
Abstract Arc volcanic rocks erupted above oceanic subduction zones generally have heavy molybdenum (Mo) isotopic compositions, which are attributed to contributions from slab–derived fluids with isotopically Mo at subarc depths. Given that mafic igneous light compositions been rarely identified, it is unclear where isotope reservoirs reside, as these must exist due through geologic time. We present data Mesozoic–Cenozoic the eastern North China craton, were affected by continuous of slab. The Mesozoic island-arc basalt (IAB)–like features and high ?98Mo values –0.15‰ +0.09‰. In contrast, Cenozoic ocean-island (OIB)–like low –0.53‰ –0.19‰. addition, two suites exhibit systematic differences in Sr-Nd fluid- melt-mobile element contents, indicating their mantle sources contained crustal components derived different weakly enriched IAB-like trace-element signatures inherited slab (including crust–derived aqueous solutions seafloor sediment–derived hydrous melts) liberated depleted OIB-like dehydrated melts (with rutile breakdown) postarc Therefore, systematics a powerful means trace geochemical fluxes subducting slabs wedge

Postcollisional mafic igneous rocks record crust-mantle interaction during continental deep subduction
Findings of coesite and microdiamond in metamorphic rocks of supracrustal protolith led to the recognition of continental subduction to mantle depths. The crust-mantle interaction is expected to take place during subduction of the continental crust beneath the subcontinental lithospheric mantle wedge. This is recorded by postcollisional mafic igneous rocks in the Dabie-Sulu orogenic belt and it...
متن کاملMagma Composition and Igneous Rocks
Introduction In the following chapters we will find that nearly all of the varied aspects of volcanism are either directly or indirectly controlled by the chemical composition of magma and the rate at which it cools and solidifies. If you are to understand and appreciate subsequent discussions of volcanoes and related volcanic phenomena, it is essential that you have a good grasp of the basic c...
متن کاملSlow oxygen diffusion rates in igneous zircons from metamorphic rocks
Empirical tests of oxygen exchange rate in zircon crystals from amphiboliteand granulite-facies metamorphic rocks of the Grenville Province demonstrate preservation of igneous dO through protracted igneous and metamorphic histories, forming the basis of quantitative estimates of diffusion rate. Granitic orthogneisses, which cooled slowly after granulite-facies metamorphism, show no consistent r...
متن کاملA paleointensity technique for multidomain igneous rocks
[1] We developed a paleointensity technique to account for concave-up Arai diagrams due to multidomain (MD) contributions to determine unbiased paleointensities for 24 trial samples from site GA-X in Pleistocene lavas from Floreana Island, Galapagos Archipelago. The main magnetization carrier is fine-grained low-titanium magnetite of variable grain size. We used a comprehensive back-zero-forth ...
