Molecular Traits for Adaptation to Drought and Salt Stress in Birch, Oak and Poplar Species

Betula spp., Quercus and Populus spp. are the most promising deciduous woody plants in forestry. However, these species were found to be sensitive climate change that can badly affect their plantations. Thus, a deep understanding of genetic mechanisms adaptation adverse environmental conditions plays an important role preventing reduction forest area. This mini review describes stress responses drought salt stresses. The overall response reviewed tree includes ROS scavenging, ABA- JA-mediated signaling pathways, antioxidant chaperone activities. Short-term promotes accumulation proline, indicating osmotic response. In turn, long-term activates DNA repair chromatin remodeling systems aimed at adapting gene protecting. Furthermore, alternative pathways carbohydrate production used under nutrient deficiencies. It should noted stomatal movement control cell wall always observed during drought. main maintenance ion homeostasis osmoprotectant, as well due biosynthesis cellulotic non-cellulotic compounds. described demonstrate similar molecular traits for stress, which may common habitats.
