Molecular Systems Combining Porphyrinoids and N‐Heterocyclic Carbenes

Porphyrins and N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) are both relevant ligands in the fields of coordination organometallic chemistry. Despite evident structural differences, porphyrins NHCs have a lot common such as their ability to form strong metal-ligand bonds use catalysis, materials science biomedicine. During last decade, several molecular systems combining NHC were reported literature. The present review gathers examples where either axially bonded metalloporphyrins or covalently attached porphyrin cores. Structural diversity, electronic interplay between some applications catalysis biomedicine notably described. Finally, with other original porphyrinoids N-confused porphyrins, subporphyrins norcorroles also presented.
