چکیده

Despite all blood donations being tested routinely for HBsAg as a clinical marker of transmissible HBV, cases post-transfusion hepatitis B virus infection are still reported because molecular studies using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) not available Transfusion Transmissible Infection (TTIs) testing. In this study, we sought to use the PCR technique re-screen donated that had already been proven be non-reactive with rapid diagnostic testing and ELISA. One hundred eighty-five samples were obtained from proportion deposited at bank Federal Medical Center, Birnin-Kebbi, Nigeria. Socio-demographic parameters such age group, status, ethnicity, occupation, group PCV donors' records. Nested was employed detect HBV DNA. Furthermore, genotyping performed determine genotypes in positive genotype-specific primers. Of 185 donors, it observed five (2.7%) population HBV. is more common among people aged 18–30, singles, Hausa, self-employed. addition, genotype E. This study suggests need complement antibody-based tests DNA effective screening consequent safe transfusion. Keywords: Hepatitis Virus; HBsAg; PCR;

Prevalence of Occult Hepatitis B Infection among HBsAg Negative Blood Donors in Golestan Province

Background and Aims: Occult hepatitis B virus infection (OBI) is known as an important source of hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. It is categorized as Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) not being present and low DNA viral load in serum. In this study, an attempt was made to investigate the outbreak of anti-HBc and OBI among the HBsAg-negative donors in Golestan province. Materials and Metho...

Molecular detection of hepatitis delta virus in blood donors with RT-PCR

Abstract Background and Objective: Hepatitis delta virus is an imperfect virus with RNA and its activity depends on the presence of hepatitis B virus. This virus can lead to acute and chronic diseases in the liver. This study aimed to detect the hepatitis delta virus in blood donors with positive Hepatitis B Surface Antigens (HBsAg). Material and Methods: In this Study, 350 serum sa...

Risk factors of hepatitis B virus infection among blood donors in Duhok city, Kurdistan Region, Iraq

Background: Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is a public health problem. The lack of information about the seroprevalence and risk factors is an obstacle for preventive public health plans to reduce the burden of viral hepatitis. Therefore, this study was conducted in Iraq, where no studies had been performed to determine the prevalence and risk factors of HBV infection. Methods: Blood sample...

Serological pattern of hepatitis B virus among Hbsag negative blood donors in Alexandria, Egypt.

This study in Alexandria, Egypt was conducted to investigate the distribution of different hepatitis B virus (HBV) markers in apparently healthy blood donors who were hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) negative, and to determine the major independent risk factors. Evidence of past exposure to HBV was found in 148/508 screened donors (29.1%). The most prevalent marker was anti-NBc in 124/508 do...

Seroprevalence of Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B Viruses Among Blood Donors in North of Iran

Background and Objective: Hepatitis A virus (HAV) and hepatitis E virus (HEV) are both transmitted by the fecal-oral route and are known as leading causes of acute viral hepatitis in the world, especially in developing countries. There is a lack of updated data on HAV and HEV seroprevalence in the north of Iran. This study aimed to determine the seroprevalence of HAV and HEV among blood donors ...
