چکیده
Abstract Geodesic acoustic modes (GAMs) represent the oscillating counterpart of zonal flow in tokamak plasma and can affect transport due to their interaction with turbulence eddies. GAMs have been observed many experiments modelled under different conditions, but because variety characteristics, we do not yet a complete picture dynamics. It has demonstrated that optical methods be efficiently used describe predict several characteristics GAM radial structures interpreted as ‘waves’ propagating space-time. We exploit complex eikonal theories investigate behavior are commonly experiments, find periodic modulation intermittency explained by properties equilibrium temperature profile. Theoretical results obtained this work supported gyrokinetic simulations for equilibria. Implications existence criteria dynamics conditions discussed, particular attention edge low high confinement modes.

Geodesic acoustic mode (GAM) of electrostatic and density fluctuations are simultaneously measured by Heavy Ion Beam Probe and Correlation Reflectometry. The local values of electric potential and density fluctuations demonstrate the significant coherency and constant phase shift at GAM frequency range. The existence of the long-distance (one quarter of the torus) correlations of electric poten...

Experimental investigations has elucidated on the complex dynamics of the low to high (L-H) plasma confinement mode transition. Evidence of interactions between the the turbulence driven E⃗ × B⃗ zonal flow oscillation or Geodesic Acoustic Mode (GAM) [1], turbulence and the mean equilibrium flows during this transition was found. Furthermore, periodic modulation of flow and turbulence level with t...

The impact on turbulent transport of geodesic acoustic modes excited by energetic particles is evidenced for the first time in flux-driven 5D gyrokinetic simulations using the Gysela code. Energetic geodesic acoustic modes (EGAMs) are excited in a regime with a transport barrier in the outer radial region. The interaction between EGAMs and turbulence is such that turbulent transport can be enha...

It is planned to use external magnetic perturbations at acoustic frequencies at the DIII-D tokamak to attempt to drive geodesic acoustic modes (GAM) to modify the turbulent transport. We show that this might not only be possible--despite the well-known electrostatic nature of the GAMs--but might be a viable and efficient method to generate GAMs in magnetically confined plasmas, by developing an...
