چکیده
Neuroplasticity is essential to learning and memory in the brain; it has therefore also been implicated numerous neurological psychiatric disorders, making measuring state of neuroplasticity foremost importance clinical neuroscience. Long-term potentiation (LTP) a key mechanism studied extensively, invasively non-human animals. Translation human application largely relies on validation non-invasive measures LTP. The current study presents generative thalamocortical computational model visual cortex for investigating replicating interlaminar connectivity changes using EEG recording humans. combined with commonly used sensory LTP paradigm fit empirical data dynamic causal modelling. demonstrated remarkable accuracy recapitulating post-tetanus seen invasive research, including increased excitatory from thalamus layer IV II/III, established major sites cortex. Kitten visual cortex: short-term, stimulus-induced changes in connectivity.
Single neurons in the kitten visual cortex can be induced to increase their responsiveness to a repeated stimulus applied while the neurons are under observation. These short-term changes are in the same direction as the permanent modifications produced in whole populations of neurons following environmental manipulations during the "critical period" of cortical development, but are less pronou...
متن کاملFunctional connectivity within the visual cortex of the rat shows state changes.
The aim of this study was to investigate the dynamics of the horizontal functional connectivity within the visual cortex during spontaneous activity or during visual stimulation. Two arrays of 16 electrodes were inserted in the visual cortex of a rat. From these electrodes a depth profile was obtained of the local spiking activity. The cross-correlations between all electrodes were estimated. T...
متن کاملLaminar analysis of visually evoked activity in the primary visual cortex.
Studying the laminar pattern of neural activity is crucial for understanding the processing of neural signals in the cerebral cortex. We measured neural population activity [multiunit spike activity (MUA) and local field potential, LFP] in Macaque primary visual cortex (V1) in response to drifting grating stimuli. Sustained visually driven MUA was at an approximately constant level across corti...
متن کاملConserved Functional Connectivity but Impaired Effective Connectivity of Thalamocortical Circuitry in Schizophrenia
Schizophrenia is a severe mental illness with neurobiological bases that remain elusive. One hypothesis emphasizes disordered thalamic function. We previously used concurrent single pulse transcranial magnetic stimulation (spTMS) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to show that individuals with schizophrenia have a decreased spTMS-evoked response in the thalamus, and decreased effe...
متن کاملContrast-invariant orientation tuning in cat visual cortex: thalamocortical input tuning and correlation-based intracortical connectivity.
The origin of orientation selectivity in visual cortical responses is a central problem for understanding cerebral cortical circuitry. In cats, many experiments suggest that orientation selectivity arises from the arrangement of lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN) afferents to layer 4 simple cells. However, this explanation is not sufficient to account for the contrast invariance of orientation tu...
