Modelling restoration of natural flow regimes in dam impaired systems: Biomorphodynamic effects and recovery times

چکیده
Dams affect the natural flow regime by altering magnitude, timing and frequency of high low flows. Many river ecosystems impaired dams are currently being restored. Restoration success is difficult to quantify often assessed comparing restored system an unimpaired static ‘reference’ system. However, restoring a past environmental conditions assessing restoration it situation neglects dynamics non-linear, adaptive responses. With this modelling study we evaluate long-term changes in morphology, morphodynamics, riparian vegetation cover habitat suitability two fish species types wetland meandering gravel bed after removal upstream dam complete regime. We ecological hydromorphodynamic recovery systems different operating regimes three time periods was present these dynamic undisturbed situation. Modelling results show that potential depends on how much has been changed state at start restoration, rather than duration pressure. Even if shortly comparable pre-disturbance conditions, there can still be time-lag response where future continues deviate from When happens, develop into alternative equilibrium becomes increasingly difficult. These stress importance considering variability as well reference systems, requiring detailed spatio-temporal monitoring assess effects.

A modelling methodology for natural dam-river network systems
An approach for modelling a natural dam-river network system is proposed in this paper. Generally, the relationships among the variables of a natural dam-river network system are complex and difficult to be described. In this paper, we present some simple first principle relationships among the water levels measured at a limited number of points of the network system such that a model is achiev...
متن کاملthe effects of changing roughness on the flow structure in the bends
flow in natural river bends is a complex and turbulent phenomenon which affects the scour and sedimentations and causes an irregular bed topography on the bed. for the reason, the flow hydralics and the parameters which affect the flow to be studied and understand. in this study the effect of bed and wall roughness using the software fluent discussed in a sharp 90-degree flume bend with 40.3cm ...
Adaptation to natural flow regimes.
Floods and droughts are important features of most running water ecosystems, but the alteration of natural flow regimes by recent human activities, such as dam building, raises questions related to both evolution and conservation. Among organisms inhabiting running waters, what adaptations exist for surviving floods and droughts? How will the alteration of the frequency, timing and duration of ...

patterns and variations in native and non-native interlanguage pragmatic rating: effects of rater training, intercultural proficiency, and self-assessment
although there are studies on pragmatic assessment, to date, literature has been almost silent about native and non-native english raters’ criteria for the assessment of efl learners’ pragmatic performance. focusing on this topic, this study pursued four purposes. the first one was to find criteria for rating the speech acts of apology and refusal in l2 by native and non-native english teachers...
