Modelling damage in multidirectional laminates subjected to multi-axial loading: Ply thickness effects and model assessment

چکیده
A meso-scale damage modelling framework for composite laminates is assessed against multi-axial experimental data obtained from specimens subjected to combined tension/compression and shear loading using a modified Arcan fixture (MAF). Two made unidirectional carbon fibre-reinforced epoxy plies of different thickness are considered investigate the ply effect on behaviour open-hole specimens. Intra-laminar predicted continuum model with fibre-aligned mesh, while cohesive zones used account inter-laminar damage. The specimen strength mean relative error 15% across all investigated lay-up configurations, maps show encouraging agreement full-field measurements digital image correlation (DIC). However, assessment reveals limitations assumption small strains rotations in formulation that lead spurious shear-dominated modes.

Effect of Ply Thickness on the Damage Development in Composite Laminates (preprint)
This paper describes the experimental investigation on the effect of ply thickness on the first ply failure, delamination, and the subsequent final failure of graphite/epoxy composite laminates. The laminates considered in this paper are a cross-ply and two quasi-isotropic laminates containing thin plies in the desired interface. The onset of the first ply failure and delamination, and the stre...
متن کاملDamage in Textile Laminates of Various Inter-ply Shift
Deformation mechanisms and failure of textile laminates are strongly affected by inter-layer configurations – a mutual shift of the plies. To model it within a traditional framework, one must construct a representative volume element (RVE), which includes all the plies. This is a time consuming and computationally expensive work. As an alternative, the paper suggests boundary conditions (BC) im...
متن کاملEnergy Absorption Analysis and Multi-objective Optimization of Tri-layer Cups Subjected to Quasi-static Axial Compressive Loading
In this paper, the energy absorption features of tri-layer explosive-welded deep-drawn cups subjected to quasi-static axial compressive loading are investigated numerically and experimentally. To produce the cups, tri-layer blanks composed of aluminum and stainless steel alloys were fabricated by an explosive-welding process and formed by a deep drawing setup. The quasi-static tests were carrie...

In this research paper, five centrifuge lateral loading tests of long piles with a considerable load eccentricity were carried out in the sand to investigate the impacts of the load eccentricity and pile length changes on the lateral behavior of a flexible pile beside the determination of experimental p-y curves. Comparing experimental test results with the recommended API (American Petroleum ...
متن کاملanalysis of elastic-plastic behavior of fiber metal laminates subjected to in-plane tensile loading
fiber metal laminates are hybrid laminates consisting of thin alternating bonded layers of aluminum and fiber/epoxy. arall (aramid aluminum laminate) and galare (glass fiber reinforced aluminum laminate) are specific kinds of fiber metal laminates that consist of thin aluminum sheets along with kevlar/epoxy and glass/epoxy composite layers, respectively. in this study, nonlinear tensile behavio...
