Modelling biphasic hormetic dose responses to predict sub-NOAEL effects using plant biology as an example

چکیده
Perception of hormesis as a significant dose–response phenomenon is found in many sciences without predicting and/or quantifying this low-dose effect with statistical models. Only minority papers published on plant biology or other apply available modelling the relationships, along significance testing for and prediction sub-NOAEL quantities. The threshold quantities opens further evaluation options such risk assessment, mixtures groups, selective populations, assessment transgenerational hormesis. Therefore, value research can benefit significantly from sound biphasic phenomenon. This review meant to raise awareness scientists modelling. • Hormesis more favorable than single hormetic doses. diversity only be captured represented through Available models adequately capture various experimental contexts. Prediction thresholds requires paves way sophisticated evaluations.

Damavand volcano is located 60 km to the East North- East of Tehran. It is a dormant stratovolcano outcrop in the Alborz Mountains of northern Iran and is the highest mountain (5670 m) in the Middle East and West Asia. Mazandaran Province, one of the most populous provinces by population density, Semnan and Gorgan provinces further east are neighbours of the Damavand. Volcanism in Damavand goes...
متن کاملNanoparticle Exposure and Hormetic Dose–Responses: An Update
The concept of hormesis, as an adaptive response of biological systems to moderate environmental challenges, has raised considerable nano-toxicological interests in view of the rapid pace of production and application of even more innovative nanomaterials and the expected increasing likelihood of environmental and human exposure to low-dose concentrations. Therefore, the aim of this review is t...
متن کاملHormetic Dose Response as the Paradigm of Plant Response to Stress
The paradigm of the response of a biological organism to exposure to stressor agents is hormetic dose response, in which high doses of a stressor are toxic or harmful but low doses are beneficial. The exploitation of this biological characteristic could enable the efficient use of plants in the fields of phytoremediation and agriculture.

متن کاملHow to induce defense responses in wild plant populations? Using bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus) as example
Inducible plant defense is a beneficial strategy for plants, which imply that plants should allocate resources from growth and reproduction to defense when herbivores attack. Plant ecologist has often studied defense responses in wild populations by biomass clipping experiments, whereas laboratory and greenhouse experiments in addition apply chemical elicitors to induce defense responses. To in...
