Modelling and optimal strategy to control coffee berry borer

چکیده
Coffee berry borer Hypothenemus hampei (Coleoptera: Scolytidae), denoted CBB, is the most important insect pest of coffee worldwide, with a high impact on economy producing countries. The spends great part its life cycle inside and causes severe crop losses. Biological control based use an entomopathogenic fungus major alternative to chemical pesticides in order CBB. sprayed berries kill CBB when insects drill holes penetrate berries. Our aim this work optimise application, using modelling approach. We first formulate mathematical model describing infestation dynamics by analyse show that stability pest-free coexistence equilibria depends basic reproduction number. To introduce variable corresponding application fungus, we then extend include dynamics. optimal problem which consists maximising yield, while minimising cost, as well population for next cropping season. existence necessary optimality condition are established Pontryagin's Maximum Principle. solved numerically BOCOP software simulations provided, showing effectively controls

Coffee Berry Borer Resistance in Coffee Genotypes
The aim of this study was to evaluate the coffee germplasm of the Paraná Agronomic Institute (IAPAR) for resistance to the coffee-berry-borer. Preliminary field evaluation was performed in August 2004 and the fruits of less damaged genotypes in the field were evaluated under controlled condition with obligated and free choice experiments established in a randomized complete design with three re...
متن کاملCoffee Berry Borer Joins Bark Beetles in Coffee Klatch
Unanswered key questions in bark beetle-plant interactions concern host finding in species attacking angiosperms in tropical zones and whether management strategies based on chemical signaling used for their conifer-attacking temperate relatives may also be applied in the tropics. We hypothesized that there should be a common link in chemical signaling mediating host location by these Scolytids...
متن کاملA Coffee Berry Borer (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae) Bibliography
Native to Africa, the coffee berry borer, Hypothenemus hampei (Ferrari) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae), has gradually invaded most coffee-growing areas worldwide. Adult females colonize the coffee berry and oviposit within galleries in the coffee seeds. Larvae and adults consume the seeds, resulting in drastic reductions in yields and quality, negatively affecting the income of approxi...
متن کاملA review of the biology and control of the coffee berry borer, Hypothenemus hampei (Coleoptera: Scolytidae).
The coffee berry borer, Hypothenemus hampei Ferrari, is a serious problem for the majority of the world's coffee growers and has proved to be one of the most intractable of present day pests. Despite a great deal of research, control still depends largely on the application of the organochlorine insecticide endosulfan, which is damaging to the environment, or a series of cultural and biological...
متن کاملClassical Biological Control of Coffee Berry Borer, Hypothenemus Hampei (coleoptera: Scolytidae) in Colombia with African Parasitoids
Coffee (Coffea arabica L.) is the most extensively consumed beverage in the world. It is grown throughout many regions of the world, including Central Africa, Asia, and Central and South America. Brazil, Vietnam, and Colombia produce about 45% of the world’s coffee. Colombia grows coffee on 2.3 million acres and supplies 10% of the world’s coffee demand. Colombian coffee is also recognized as h...
