چکیده
ABSTRACT Magnetars exhibit a variety of transient high-energy phenomena in the form bursts, outbursts, and giant flares. It is common belief that these events originate sudden release magnetic energy due to rearrangement twisted field. We present global models 3D force-free (FF) non-linear magnetar magnetosphere. solve FF equations following Grad–Rubin approach compactified spherical domain. Appropriate boundary conditions are imposed at surface star for current distribution Our implementation tested by reproducing various known analytical as well axisymmetric numerical results. then proceed study general with non-axisymmetric distributions, such fields localized twists resemble hotspots star, we examine characteristic quantities energy, helicity, twist. Finally, discuss implications on available budget, temperature, diffusion time-scale, which can be associated observations.

Relativistic Force-Free Electrodynamic Simulations of Neutron Star Magnetospheres
The luminosity and structure of neutron star magnetospheres are crucial to our understanding of pulsar and plerion emission. A solution found using the force-free approximation would be an interesting standard with which any model with more physics could be compared. Prior quasi-analytic force-free solutions may not be stable, while prior time-dependent magnetohydrodynamic models used unphysica...
متن کاملX-ray aurora in neutron star magnetospheres
The discovery of quasi-periodic oscillations (QPOs) in low-mass X-ray binaries (LMXBs) has been reported and discussed in recent studies in theoretical and observational astrophysics. The Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer has observed oscillations in the X-ray flux of about 20 accreting neutron stars. These oscillations are very strong and remarkably coherent. Their frequencies range from ∼ 10 Hz to ...
متن کاملResonant Cyclotron Scattering and Comptonization in Neutron Star Magnetospheres
Resonant cyclotron scattering of the surface radiation in the magnetospheres of neutron stars may considerably modify the emergent spectra and impede efforts to constraint neutron star properties. Resonant cyclotron scattering by a non-relativistic warm plasma in an inhomogeneous magnetic field has a number of unusual characteristics: (i) in the limit of high resonant optical depth, the cyclotr...
متن کاملNeutron star magnetospheres: the binary pulsar, Crab and magnetars
A number of disparate observational and theoretical pieces of evidence indicate that, contrary to the conventional wisdom, neutron stars’ closed field lines are populated by dense, hot plasma and may be responsible for producing some radio and high energy emission. This conclusion is based on eclipse modeling of the binary pulsar system PSR J0737-3039A/B (Lyutikov & Thompson 2005), a quantitati...
متن کاملThe High-Energy Polarization-Limiting Radius of Neutron Star Magnetospheres I – Slowly Rotating Neutron Stars
In the presence of strong magnetic fields, the vacuum becomes a birefringent medium. We show that this QED effect decouples the polarization modes of photons leaving the NS surface. Both the total intensity and the intensity in each of the two modes is preserved along a ray’s path through the neutron-star magnetosphere. We analyze the consequences that this effect has on aligning the observed p...
