Modeling Turbulence in Galactic Centers

چکیده

Abstract Turbulence is a prevalent phenomenon in the interstellar medium, and particular, environment at centers of galaxies. For example, detailed observations Milky Way’s Central Molecular Zone (CMZ) revealed that it has complex turbulent structure. on galactic scales often modeled using star formation feedback. However, these effects do not appear to be sufficient for explaining high-velocity dispersion observed CMZ, indicating additional gas-stirring processes are likely operating. Here we introduce proof-of-concept method drive turbulence gas orbits under influence potential. Instead relying particular physical mechanism, have adopted Fourier forcing module applied smoothed particle hydrodynamics code. To test our method, performed simulations simplistic model CMZ. Turbulence and Galactic Structure

Interstellar turbulence is driven over a wide range of scales by processes including spiral arm instabilities and supernovae, and it affects the rate and morphology of star formation, energy dissipation, and angular momentum transfer in galaxy disks. Star formation is initiated on large scales by gravitational instabilities which control the overall rate through the long dynamical time correspo...

Gravity-driven Turbulence in Galactic Disks

High-resolution, 2-D hydrodynamical simulations with a large dynamic range are performed to study the turbulent nature of the interstellar medium (ISM) in galactic disks. The simulations are global, where the self-gravity of the ISM, realistic radiative cooling, and galactic rotation are taken into account. In the analysis undertaken here, feedback processes from stellar energy source are omitt...

Interstellar Turbulence Driving by Galactic Spiral Shocks

Spiral shocks are potentially a major source of turbulence in the interstellar medium. To address this problem quantitatively, we use numerical simulations to investigate gas flow across spiral arms in vertically stratified, self-gravitating, magnetized models of galactic disks. Our models are isothermal, quasi-axisymmetric, and local in the quasi-radial direction while global in the vertical d...

Accretion Does Not Drive the Turbulence in Galactic Disks

Rapid accretion of cold intergalactic gas plays a crucial role in getting gas into galaxies. It has been suggested that this gas accretion proceeds along narrow streams that might also directly drive the turbulence in galactic gas, dynamical disturbances, and bulge formation. In cosmological simulations, however, it is impossible to isolate and hence disentangle the effect of cold stream accret...
