Modeling the microstructure of biopolymer aerogels using Voronoi tessellation method
نویسندگان
چکیده
The bulk properties of biopolymer aerogels depend on their microstructure, which can be tailored by different synthesis and drying methods. Biopolymer are characterized a fibrillar morphology having cellular-like network. recently proposed constitutive modeling approach Rege et al. [1] has shown good predictive capabilities in describing the mechanical behavior such aerogels. Although model describes cellular nature adheres to cell-size distributions aerogels, it is based assumption that network made up idealized square-shaped cells. In this contribution, diversified described computationally using Laguerre-Voronoi tessellation [2]. pore-size distribution (PSD) data obtained from experiments accounts for random cell sizes within Accordingly, Voronoi tessellations generated create periodic representative volume elements (RVEs) resembling microstructural This work an extension our previous tessellation-based 2-d description [3].

Image representation using Voronoi tessellation
The major approaches to image representation [l] in terms of its constituent regions may be divided into two broad categories: (1) those which specify the borders of the regions and (2) those which describe their interiors. Most of the approaches and the more interesting ones, belong to the latter category. This may be attributed to the increased dimensionality of information (regions, rather t...
متن کاملDistinct element modelling of the mechanical behaviour of intact rocks using voronoi tessellation model
This paper aims to study the mechanical behaviour and failure mechanism of intact rocks under different loading conditions using the grain based model implemented in the universal distinct element code (UDEC). The grain based numerical model is a powerful tool to investigate complicated micro-structural mechanical behaviour of rocks. In the UDEC grain based model, the intact material is simulat...

The study of membranes and embedded proteins represents an advanced task in the field of molecular simulation. While nowadays a profound selection of sampling techniques, molecular topologies and theoretical approaches is available, the analysis of actual simulation data remains a difficult endeavour. For homogeneous lipid bilayer simulations, the calculation of the bilayer thickness or area pe...
متن کاملCentroidal Voronoi Tessellation-Based Reduced-Order Modeling of Complex Systems
A reduced-order modeling methodology based on centroidal Voronoi tessellations (CVTs) is introduced. CVTs are special Voronoi tessellations for which the generators of the Voronoi diagram are also the centers of mass (means) of the corresponding Voronoi cells. For discrete data sets, CVTs are closely related to the h-means and k-means clustering techniques. A discussion of reduced-order modelin...
