Modeling of the driver transverse profile for laser wakefield electron acceleration at APOLLON research facility

چکیده
The quality of electron bunches accelerated by laser wakefields is highly dependant on the temporal and spatial features driver. Analysis experiments performed at APOLLON PW-class facility shows that instabilities focal spot, such as shot-to-shot pointing fluctuations or asymmetry transverse fluence, lead to charge energy degradation bunch. It shown PIC simulations can reproduce experimental results with a significantly higher accuracy when measured asymmetries are included in simulated laser's profile, compared ideal, symmetric profile. A method based modified Gerchberg–Saxton iterative algorithm used retrieve electric field from fluence measurements vacuum volume, accurately using simulations, leading spectra close agreement results, for charge, distribution, beam exit plasma.

Simulation of laser wakefield acceleration of an ultrashort electron bunch.
The dynamics of the acceleration of a short electron bunch in a strong plasma wave excited by a laser pulse in a plasma channel is studied both analytically and numerically in slab geometry. In our simulations, a fully nonlinear, relativistic hydrodynamic description for the plasma wave is combined with particle-in-cell methods for the description of the bunch. Collective self-interactions with...
متن کاملCharacteristics of Electron Acceleration in a Self-modulated Laser Wakefield
Acceleration of electrons by an electron plasma wave has been of great current interest because of its much larger acceleration gradient than that of conventional rf linacs [1]. Several methods have been proposed for driving a largeamplitude fast-phase-velocity plasma wave [1]. In the Laser Wake-Field Accelerator (LWFA), an electron plasma wave is driven resonantly by a short laser pulse throug...
متن کاملSelf-modulated wakefield and forced laser wakefield acceleration of electrons
The interaction of intense laser pulses (power.30 TW) with underdense plasmas has been studied. In the regime where the pulse length is much longer than the plasma period (t l@2pvp ), the laser pulse is found to be self-modulated at the plasma frequency by the forward Raman scattering instability. Wavebreaking of the resulting plasma wave results in energetic electrons being accelerated to more...
متن کاملLOW ENERGY SPREAD 100 MeV-1 GeV ELECTRON BUNCHES FROM LASER WAKEFIELD ACCELERATION AT LOASIS*
Experiments at the LOASIS laboratory of LBNL recently demonstrated production of 100 MeV electron beams with low energy spread and low divergence from laser wakefield acceleration. The radiation pressure of a 10 TW laser pulse guided over 10 diffraction ranges by a plasma density channel was used to drive an intense plasma wave (wakefield), producing acceleration gradients on the order of 100 G...
متن کاملQuasi-phase-matched laser wakefield acceleration.
The energy gain in laser wakefield acceleration is ultimately limited by dephasing, occurring when accelerated electrons outrun the accelerating phase of the wakefield. We apply quasi-phase-matching, enabled by axially modulated plasma channels, to overcome this limitation. Theory and simulations are presented showing that weakly relativistic laser intensities can drive significant electron ene...
