Modeling Calculation and Influencing Factors of Geomagnetically Induced Current in Sanhua Power Grid

Abstract The time-varying magnetic field of a storm induces an electric in the earth, which generates geomagnetically induced currents (GIC) when it acts on power grid and has many hazards to system. In this paper, we model calculate ground-induced for 20 storms from 2008 2018, investigate effects two factors, strength, earth conductivity, currents, are important prevention control GIC large-scale grids low- mid-latitude regions.

The article examines the problem of saturation and failure of power transformers under geomagnetically induced currents and currents of the E3 component of high-altitude nuclear explosions. It also describes a special protective relay reacting on DC component in the transformer neutral current.
