Model Predictive Control of Time-Varying Aberrations for Sensorless Adaptive Optics

We propose a model predictive control (MPC) method to compensate for the time-varying phase aberrations in sensorless adaptive optics (AO) system. The approximate point spread function (PSF) of imaging system with diversity is mathematically derived, and its validity verified. proposed MPC, which considers operating limits deformable mirror (DM), computes optimal applied voltage each actuator over prediction horizon, receding horizon scheme as feedback control. Numerical case studies generated by an atmospheric turbulence simulator are presented demonstrate correction performance MPC strategy. caused 50% improvement reduction residual aberration, making it competitive saturation linear quadratic regulator (LQR). computational feasibility validated using fast approximates primal barrier method.
