Minocycline Hydrochloride as a Potential Adjuvant to Improve Osteoconductive and Osteoinductive Properties of Bone Substitutes in an Extra-Skeletal Bone Augmentation Model: Preliminary Observations in Rats

Abstract Objectives The present study was performed to determine if minocycline HCl could influence the behavior of deproteinized bovine bone mineral (DBBM) and bioactive glass (BG) particles when used as filler material for new generation in a guided augmentation model. Materials Methods Two occlusive titanium caps were placed on rat calvaria. One filled with BG particles, second DBBM both previously mixed blood (control). In loaded groups (experimental), grafts additionally into solution. Samples harvested after 4, 8, 16 weeks. Half samples embedded methylmethacrylate undecalcified histology other half fixed, decalcified, paraffin classical histologic analysis. Results control highlighted osteoconductive osteoinductive responses associated well an reaction, sections. addition had no measurable result. sections; however, areas spontaneous ossification be observed 8 Conclusion Our observations suggest that may add some properties within limitations this design. Further investigations are needed refine results.
