MIMO-SAR Interferometric Measurements for Wind Turbine Tower Deformation Monitoring

چکیده
Deformations affect the structural integrity of wind turbine towers. The health such structures is thus assessed by monitoring. majority sensors used for this purpose are costly and require in situ installations. We investigated whether Multiple-Input Multiple-Output Synthetic Aperture Radar (MIMO-SAR) can be to monitor an automotive-grade, low-cost, off-the-shelf MIMO-SAR sensor operating W-band with acquisition frequency 100 Hz derive Line-Of-Sight (LOS) deformation measurements ranges up about 175 m. Time series displacement areas at different heights tower were analyzed compared reference acquired processing video camera recordings total station measurements. results showed movements range 1 m top tower. able detect deformations also sensor; sufficient radar backscattering, suggest a sub-mm noise level agreement mm- level. further applied Fourier transformation dominant vibration frequencies identified values ranging from 0.17 24 Hz. outcomes confirmed potential highly precise, cost-efficient, time-efficient monitoring likely applicable other high-rise as skyscrapers or chimneys.

Wind Turbine Tower Resonance
Wind turbine towers are large structures designed to withstand the unique loading conditions imposed on them by the turbine’s nacelle and dynamic forces from the rotating blades. Observations and noise measurements of a particular wind turbine showed high noise levels at approximately 48 Hz, which could not be explained from the usual known potential noise sources. Correlated far field noise me...
متن کاملApplication of Sar Interferometric Techniques for Surface Deformation Monitoring
Over the last years surface deformation monitoring with interferometric SAR (INSAR) techniques reached some maturity. Important elements contributing to this increasing importance included the development of advanced processing techniques and the rich existing SAR data archives containing information on surface movements since 1991, the currently operated SAR sensors in orbit (ERS-2, ENVISAT AS...

By increasing the applicability of ground-based SAR (GBSAR) systems in geoscience and remote sensing, the development and evaluation of new systems have gained attention. GBSAR systems can be utilized for monitoring areas that are hard to or cannot be seen by the airborne or spaceborne systems. Furthermore, they have better spatial and temporal resolutions and are cost-effective and easy to imp...
متن کاملExperiments on Fairing Design for a Wind Turbine Tower
An aerodynamic fairing can reduce the effects of the wind turbine tower wake on the blades of a downwind rotor. Previous studies on fairing design have focused on idealized conditions and time-averaged drag reductions, whereas this is the first study to obtain and analyze unsteady velocity field data in the wake of minimum drag fairings at non-zero angles of attack, specifically designed for wi...

This paper provides experimental validation of the sound power level data obtained from manufacturers for the ten wind turbine models examined in Health Canada's Community Noise and Health Study (CNHS). Within measurement uncertainty, the wind turbine sound power levels measured using IEC 61400-11 [(2002). (International Electrotechnical Commission, Geneva)] were consistent with the sound power...
