Microstructure and Chemical Transformation of Natural Ilmenite during Isothermal Roasting Process in Air Atmosphere

Ilmenite is a vital raw material for the production of metal titanium and titanium-containing materials. In this paper, microstructure chemical transformation natural ilmenite in air atmosphere were investigated by analysis XRF, X-ray diffractometer, SEM-EDS. Results showed that untreated had three layers after oxidation at 800 °C 60 min, which Fe2O3, TiO2 inside mixture layer Fe2O3 turn. Subsequently, it was roasted 900 °C, Fe2Ti3O9 firstly developed between layers. With increase roasting time, decomposed into Fe2TiO5 TiO2, continued to be formed along diameter direction toward center particle until as final products particles. Pseudorutile directly process.
