Microscopic and macroscopic assessment of carbonate dissolution for geologic $${{\hbox {CO}}_{2}}$$ storage

چکیده

Abstract Carbon capture and storage in underground formations might be considered as a relevant technology to curb anthropogenic climate gas emissions. However, carbon dioxide ( $${{\hbox {CO}}_{2}}$$ CO 2 ) injection can lead severe rock-fluid interactions depending on the thermodynamic conditions, rock fluids composition. The progressive dissolution of formation brine results mineral dissolution/precipitation processes that may drastically change properties reservoir. This study is an attempt get deeper understanding heterogeneous limestone at microscopic macroscopic levels by synergy between Isothermal Titration Calorimetry (ITC) core flooding experiments with in-situ imaging quantify uneven displacement fronts understand influence reactions larger scale. Rock-fluid fluid-fluid interactions, evaluated ITC experiments, indicate carbonate unfavorable respect enthalpy but thermodynamically favorable entropy (cations hydrogen increase brine). Core PET/CT show complex pore structures cause variation availability ratio reactive fluid throughout porous medium, hence, non-uniform was confirmed microcalorimetry provides insights into rocks both scales.

Environmental Assessment of Geologic Storage of Co

Efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change have led research and industry groups to explore ways of applying existing technologies and practices to the challenge of reducing CO2 emissions. The storage of CO2 in underground geologic reservoirs is one such idea that employs techniques developed for oil and gas production and transmission. For example, CO2 has been injected into petroleum r...

Simulation of Pedestrian Dynamics with Macroscopic and Microscopic Mathematical Models

Here, we collect two parts of a research project on the pedestrian flow modeling. Rapid growth in the volume of public transport and the need for its reasonable, efficient planning have made the description and modeling of transport and pedestrian behaviors as important research topics in the past twenty years. First, we present a macroscopic model for the pedestrian flow based on continuum mec...

Geologic Storage of CO2

Dynamic imaging provides an effective way to integrate previous time-lapse data with current data in order to estimate a current model. We present two methods useful for continuous dynamic reservoir and subsurface monitoring. The first method is a stochastic method for the inversion of geophysical data. It uses the ensemble Kalman filter (EnKF) that we demonstrate using time-lapse surface seism...
