Microorganisms isolated from seabirds feathers for mercury bioremediation

چکیده

Environmental pollution caused by mercury has received increasing attention in recent years. Several studies have warned of the high rates biomagnification superior levels marine food networks affecting seabirds. Although seabird feathers are reported as bioindicators mercury, possibility using microbiota associated with them for bioremediation this metal not been considered. Despite potential feather microbiota, cultivable microorganisms from sample matrix identified. In study, we isolated and identified organisms three types seabirds, two species penguins (Pygoscelis antartica Pygoscelis papua) brown skua bird (Catharacta lonnbergi) through poisoned media a final concentration 10 mg / L Hg2+ culture medium microbial consortia. Yeast isolates belonged to genus Debaryomyces, Meyerozyma, Papiliotrema, Rhodotorula, fungi genera Leiotrametes, Penicillium, Pseudogymnoascus, Cladosporium were Adult concentrations can serve isolate capable removing mercury. Feathers as a means of monitoring mercury in seabirds: Insights from stable isotope analysis.

Mercury concentrations, together with nitrogen and carbon stable isotope signatures, were determined in body feather samples from northern fulmars Fulmarus glacialis and great skuas Catharacta skua, and in different flight feathers from great skuas. There were no significant relationships between trophic status, as defined using isotope analysis, and mercury concentration in the same feather ty...

Mechanisms of mercury bioremediation.

Mercury is one of the most toxic heavy metals, and has significant industrial and agricultural uses. These uses have led to severe localized mercury pollution. Mercury volatilization after its reduction to the metallic form by mercury-resistant bacteria has been reported as a mechanism for mercury bioremediation [Brunke, Deckwer, Frischmuth, Horn, Lunsdorf, Rhode, Rohricht, Timmis and Weppen (1...

Bioremediation of lead by lead-resistant microorganisms, isolated from industrial sample

Lead contamination in water is a widespread problem throughout the world and results from industrial use and processing of lead ore. Bio-availability of lead can be hazardous for children and causes mental retardation. The use of lead free petrol is one measure to check this pollution, but this heavy metal is also present in industrial effluents and need to be removed before these effluents are...

Potential bioremediation of mercury-contaminated substrate using filamentous fungi isolated from forest soil.

The use of filamentous fungi in bioremediation of heavy metal contamination has been developed recently. This research aims to observe the capability of filamentous fungi isolated from forest soil for bioremediation of mercury contamination in a substrate. Six fungal strains were selected based on their capability to grow in 25 mg/L Hg(2+)-contaminated potato dextrose agar plates. Fungal strain...
