Microorganisms: A Potential Source of Bioactive Molecules for Antioxidant Applications

نویسندگان

چکیده

Oxidative stress originates from an elevated intracellular level of free oxygen radicals that cause lipid peroxidation, protein denaturation, DNA hydroxylation, and apoptosis, ultimately impairing cell viability. Antioxidants scavenge reduce oxidative stress, which further helps to prevent cellular damage. Medicinal plants, fruits, spices are the primary sources antioxidants time immemorial. In contrast microorganisms can be used as a source with advantage fast growth under controlled conditions. Further, microbe-based nontoxic, noncarcinogenic, biodegradable compared synthetic antioxidants. The present review aims summarize current state research on antioxidant activity including actinomycetes, bacteria, fungi, protozoa, microalgae, yeast, produce variety compounds, i.e., carotenoids, polyphenols, vitamins, sterol, etc. Special emphasis is given mechanisms signaling pathways followed by Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS), especially for those compounds have been scarcely investigated so far.

Endophytic Fungi: A Potential Source of Bioactive Compounds

Endophytic fungi are ubiquitous in nature and reside intercellular or intracellular in the plants, at least for a portion of their lives without causing apparent symptoms of infection. Almost all plants are known to harbor endophytes. The choice of the plant to be used for exploring endophytes for bioactive compounds is important. Secondary metabolites serve in multiple physiologic functions, m...

Molecular Regulation of Adipogenesis and Potential Anti-Adipogenic Bioactive Molecules

Adipogenesis is the process by which precursor stem cells differentiate into lipid laden adipocytes. Adipogenesis is regulated by a complex and highly orchestrated gene expression program. In mammalian cells, the peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ (PPARγ), and the CCAAT/enhancer binding proteins (C/EBPs) such as C/EBPα, β and δ are considered the key early regulators of adipogenesis, ...
