Microalgal nanosized polyphosphate bodies as novel iron supplements for iron-deficiency anemia treatment in rats

Nanosized polyphosphate bodies (PPB) are potential iron supplements for deficiency treatment, which can be produced by microalgal cell factories. To investigate the effect of PPB on iron-deficiency anemia, iron-deficient rats were constructed and given feeds with different supplements. Four supplements, i.e. from microalgae, FeSO 4 , ferric citrate (FC), synthetic (PolyP) + FC, investigated in anemia treatment at three dietary intervention stages (i.e. day 3, 7, 10). These four showed similar hemoglobin (Hb) improvements 3 respectively; however, resulted higher increased Hb reticulocyte than FC PolyP 10. The regeneration efficiencies followed order: (42.6%) ≈ (47.7%) < (56.1%) (56.2%). absolute content to 7 then decreased day10 all repletion groups. diet supplied more intestinal total soluble, low-molecular weight, nanosized diets. Overall, novel natural that used opened new possibilities develop nanoparticles as high-value products human health improvement. Microalgal rats. effects assessed stages. PPB, particles, should considered function treatment.
