Micro-mechanical analysis of caisson foundation in sand using DEM: Particle shape effect

چکیده
The caisson foundation has been extensively studied with experimental, analytical and numerical methods. However, the effect of particle shape on is somehow ignored. In this paper, analyzed DEM discussed in detail by introducing spherical tetrahedral particles without rolling resistance, resistance. Firstly, a series biaxial tests are simulated samples different shapes to obtain soil properties, typical shear behaviors observed all simulations. Then macro- microscopic then investigated loading conditions. results show that when subjected external loading, compared particles, angular or resistance (1) increased horizontal rotational bearing capacities; (2) much smaller rotation due strong interlocking capacity between particles; (3) exhibits higher stress concentration magnitude force chains; (4) experiences significant increase anisotropy.
