Adsorption of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate from aqueous solution using a modified natural zeolite with CTAB
This paper describes studies of surface modification of a natural Chilean zeolite with cetyl trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB), to investigate the adsorption efficiency for the removal from aqueous solution of an anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS), at bench scale. Modification of the zeolite with CTAB (named ZMS) was based on the external cation exchange capacity (ECEC) ...
متن کاملMicrobial Degradation of the Sulfonate of Dodecyl Benzene Sulfonate.
It has been observed that the sulfonate portion of alkyl benzene sulfonate (ABS) will undergo microbial attack in certain pure and mixed cultures if an energy source, such as glucose, is available. The evidence for this is provided by the stoichiometric relationship between the reduction of ABS concentration and the appearance of inorganic sulfur compounds.
متن کاملMixing behavior of the biosurfactant, rhamnolipid, with a conventional anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate.
The use of small angle neutron scattering, SANS, neutron reflectivity, NR, and surface tension to study the mixing properties of the biosurfactant rhamnolipid with a conventional anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl 6-benzene sulfonate, LAS, is reported. The monorhamnose rhamnolipid, R1, mixes close to ideally with LAS at the air-water interface, whereas for mixtures of LAS with the dirhamnose rh...
متن کاملMicellization of sodium dodecyl sulfate and polyoxyethylene dodecyl ethers in solution
The effect of polyoxyethylene type nonionic surfactants (C12En n=3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8) on the aqueous solution of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) in absence and presence of NaCl was examined using small-angle neutron scattering (SANS), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and viscosity measurements. Upon addition of C12En, micellar size of SDS was found to increase significantly, and such micellar elong...
متن کاملThe Effect of Phospholipids on Inhibition of Growth and Respiration in Yeasts by Sodium Benzene Dodecyl Sulfonate *
The germicidal properties of anionic surface-active compounds against various pathogenic microorganisms have been widely reported in recent years.' It has been the experience of most workers that inhibition of microbial growth by these compounds is far more effective in vitro than in wvvo. This phenomenon is generally ascribed to adsorption on, or competition between, the surface-active agent a...
