Multicomponent reactions are valuable synthetic tools to deliver highly functionalized motifs starting from simple building blocks in only one step and an atom-economical way. Herein we disclose the structure of a new unexpected compound, methyl 5-imino-2-methyl-1,10a-dihydro-5H-chromeno[2,3-b]pyridine-3-carboxylate, which was formed ohmic-heating-assisted multicomponent Hantzsch reaction 3-formylchromone with acetoacetate ammonium acetate, aqueous medium, presence tetrabutylammonium bromide as phase transfer catalyst. The title compound isolated no need chromatographic separation analyzed by nuclear magnetic resonance (1H 13C-NMR, HSQC HMBC) spectroscopy, mass spectrometry (MS) high-resolution (HRMS). Its formation main product observed when performed using ohmic heating, may lead some speculations about possible existence specific effects heating reactivity pathway because passage alternating electric current high frequency within media, opening opportunities for further investigations potential this thermal processing method organic synthesis optimization.
