Methods for addressing tidal floods in coastal cities: an overview

Abstract Coastal cities are prone to tidal floods because coastal centers of economic activities, trades and services; in addition, there residential housing centers. In general, this kind natural disaster has flooded the lower area, which greatly negative impacts on health, lifestyle socioeconomic life affected population cities. following decades, will damage more than a hundred major worldwide. This paper aims examine causes, effects as well methods that have been taken globally by reviewing papers published global indexed journals concerning handling around world. study reveals three methods; first is hard solution method involving infrastructures such dikes, sea walls, water storage pumps (polder system). Then second soft related social, cultural, habitual methods, adaptation, encouraging local wisdom collective action. While third policy management system implements integrated policies flood management.
