Method for Assessing the Soundscape in a Marine Artificial Environment

چکیده
We applied standard acoustic methods to record, analyze and compare anthropogenic biological signals belonging the soundscape of artificial marine habitats. The study was conducted on two tanks located at Acquario di Genova (Italy), “Red Sea” “Tropical Lagoon” tanks, which represent different living environments hosting a variety species background sounds. use seven eco-acoustic indices, whose time series spanned entire period study, allowed characterization environments. investigated extent indices might describe in an environment surrounded by mechanical noise, overlapping diurnal/nocturnal fish chorusing produced soniferous species. Three specific types sounds emerged: (1) ones life-support system tanks; (2) anthropic origin due maintenance introduction food; (3) temporal trends associated with day/night cycles, especially impacted lighting. searched for selected spectral patterns that were correlated indices. observed activity found be consistent sound emission three hosted tanks. power density (PSD) confirmed presence (at 95th 99th percentiles) identified frequency intervals. expect this method could useful studying behavior aquatic animals without intruding into their

Evolution of Artificial Soundscape in a Natural Environment
Research on artificial life involves attempts to produce lifelike phenomena through simulations using computer models, robotics, and biochemistry. In this paper, we propose a new approach to artificial life experimentation in an open environment, with an autonomous sensor network (ASN) we have developed (Maruyama et al., 2013). It takes a form of an experimental sound generative art installatio...

In the face of accelerated climate change, monitoring biodiversity has become a critical task for ecologists. Habitat loss is occurring at an alarming rate both in terrestrial and marine ecosystems, resulting in endangerment and extinction of species up to 1,000 times faster than natural rates. However, traditional biodiversity measurements are logistically and financially difficult, making bio...

Due to an increase in demand of petroleum products which are transported by vessels or exported by pipelines, oil spill management becomes a controversial issue in coastal environment safety as well as making serious financial problems. After spilling oil in the water body, oil spreads as a thin layer on the water surface. Currents, waves and wind are the main causes of oil slick transport. The...
