Metformin Protects Rat Skeletal Muscle from Physical Exercise-Induced Injury

Metformin (Met) is a drug commonly prescribed in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Its efficacy due to the suppression of hepatic gluconeogenesis, enhancement peripheral glucose uptake and lower absorption by intestine. Recent studies have reported Met other clinical applications, such as age-related diseases. Despite wide use Met, its mechanism action on muscle effect performance are unclear. We investigated effects combined with training physical (PP) healthy rats receiving for 8 weeks while undergoing daily moderate exercise. evaluated following: PP through graded endurance exercise test performed before beginning protocol 48 h end period; blood ALT, AST, LDH CK–MB levels order address damage; several myokines expression factors believed be involved adaptation Our data demonstrate that does not improve positive performance, although it protects myocytes from exercise-induced damage. Moreover, given positively affects adaptation, our support idea therapeutic application when function structure compromised.
