Metamorphoses of the flow past an obstacle of a resonantly driven bistable polariton fluid

چکیده

Motivated by recent experiments, we theoretically analyze the flow past an obstacle of a one-dimensional ``quantum fluid light,'' which is resonantly driven, and exhibits bistability. The found to abruptly change several times when velocity or potential strength increased. These transitions display unusual features. In contrast cases usual fluids superfluids, take place between stationary states. They involve bistability in essential way. Remarkably, at points, wake lies unstable intermediate density state.

12 Decoherence in Resonantly Driven Bistable Systems

A main obstacle for the experimental realization of a quantum computer is the unavoidable coupling of the qubits to external degrees of freedom and the decoherence caused in that way. A possible solution of this problem are error correcting codes. These, however, require redundant coding and, thus, a considerably higher algorithmic effort. Yet another route to minimize decoherence is provided b...

Flow of foam past an elliptical obstacle.

To investigate the link between discrete small-scale and continuous large scale mechanical properties of a foam, we observe its two-dimensional flow in a channel, around an elliptical obstacle. We measure the drag, lift, and torque acting on the ellipse versus the angle between its major axis and the flow direction. The drag increases with the spanwise dimension, in marked contrast with a squar...

Slip flow of an optically thin radiating non-Gray couple stress fluid past a stretching sheet

This paper addresses the combined effects of couple stresses, thermal radiation, viscous dissipation and slip condition on a free convective flow of a couple stress fluid induced by a vertical stretching sheet. The Cogley- Vincenti-Gilles equilibrium model is employed to include the effects of thermal radiation in the study. The governing boundary layer equations are transformed into a system o...

Numerical Simulation of Viscous Flow of a Non-newtonian Fluid past an Irregular Solid Obstacle by the Mirror Fluid Method

The mirror fluid method is proposed for simulating viscous tubular flow of a Newtonian or non-Newtonian fluid past an irregular solid obstacle using a simple finite difference method for discretization. Suitable flow parameters in the solid domain are assigned by a mirror relation to ensure the surface segment is subjected to zero net shear and normal forces and the boundary conditions are enfo...
