Idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus in neurological practice
Background: We have previously seen that idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) patients havingelevated intracranial pressure (ICP) pulse amplitude consistently respond to shunt surgery. In this study weexplored how the cerebrospinal fluid pressure (CSFP) pulse amplitude determined during lumbar infusion testing, correlates with ICP pulse amplitude determined during over-nig...
متن کاملMetamorphopsia and letter recognition.
Acuity is the most commonly used measure of visual function, and reductions in acuity are associated with most eye diseases. Metamorphopsia--a perceived distortion of visual space--is another common symptom of visual impairment and is currently assessed qualitatively using Amsler (1953) charts. In order to quantify the impact of metamorphopsia on acuity, we measured the effect of physical spati...
متن کاملMetamorphopsia: An Overlooked Visual Symptom.
Metamorphopsia is a common symptom in different macular disorders. Micropsia and macropsia are special types of metamorphopsia. Recent theories suggest that both retinal and cortical mechanisms are involved in the development and changes of metamorphopsia. Different functional tests have been proposed for the evaluation of metamorphopsia: from the Amsler grid to the hand-held mobile devices for...
متن کاملThe neurological content of general practice.
Of examined patients in medical practice in this study 12.3% presented with neurological disease or health problems involving neurological questions or approach. In acute cases neurological problems (15.5%), occurred more often than in chronic ones. This high neurological workload in general practice has to be taken seriously into consideration in undergraduate and postgraduate medical training.
متن کاملQuantification of metamorphopsia in patients with epiretinal membranes.
PURPOSE To quantify the degree of metamorphopsia in patients with idiopathic epiretinal membranes (ERMs), by use of a new metamorphopsia chart (M-CHARTS) developed by the authors. METHODS These M-CHARTS had 19 dotted lines with dot intervals of between 0.2 degrees (fine) and 2.0 degrees (coarse) visual angles. As the dot intervals were changed from fine to coarse, a decrease in the severity o...
