Metabolic Reprogramming, Questioning, and Implications for Cancer

چکیده
The expression “metabolic reprogramming” has been encountered more and in the literature since mid-1990s. It seems to encompass several notions depending on author, but lack of a clear definition allows it be used as “catch-all” expression. Our first intention is point out inconsistencies use reprogramming terminology for cancer metabolism. second address over-focus role mutations metabolic adaptation. With increased interest metabolism and, specifically, Warburg effect research, appropriate discuss this related concepts detail.

Oxygen availability and metabolic reprogramming in cancer.
Hypoxia and dysregulated metabolism are defining features of solid tumors. How cancer cells adapt to low O2 has been illuminated by numerous studies, with "reprogrammed" metabolism being one of the most important mechanisms. This metabolic reprogramming not only promotes cancer cell plasticity, but also provides novel insights for treatment strategies. As the most studied O2 "sensor," hypoxia-i...
متن کاملDysregulated metabolic enzymes and metabolic reprogramming in cancer cells
Tumor cells carry various genetic and metabolic alterations, which directly contribute to their growth and malignancy. Links between metabolism and cancer are multifaceted. Metabolic reprogramming, such as enhanced aerobic glycolysis, mutations in the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle metabolic enzymes, and dependence on lipid and glutamine metabolism are key characteristics of cancer cells. Under...
متن کاملOncogenic KRAS and BRAF Drive Metabolic Reprogramming in Colorectal Cancer.
Metabolic reprogramming, in which altered utilization of glucose and glutamine supports rapid growth, is a hallmark of most cancers. Mutations in the oncogenes KRAS and BRAF drive metabolic reprogramming through enhanced glucose uptake, but the broader impact of these mutations on pathways of carbon metabolism is unknown. Global shotgun proteomic analysis of isogenic DLD-1 and RKO colon cancer ...
متن کاملCancer metabolic reprogramming: importance, main features, and potentials for precise targeted anti-cancer therapies
Cancer cells are well documented to rewire their metabolism and energy production networks to support and enable rapid proliferation, continuous growth, survival in harsh conditions, invasion, metastasis, and resistance to cancer treatments. Since Dr. Otto Warburg's discovery about altered cancer cell metabolism in 1930, thousands of studies have shed light on various aspects of cancer metaboli...
متن کاملMetabolic Reprogramming in Glioma
Many cancers have long been thought to primarily metabolize glucose for energy production-a phenomenon known as the Warburg Effect, after the classic studies of Otto Warburg in the early twentieth century. Yet cancer cells also utilize other substrates, such as amino acids and fatty acids, to produce raw materials for cellular maintenance and energetic currency to accomplish cellular tasks. The...
