Mentoring and Research Self-Efficacy of Doctoral Students: A Psychometric Approach

Effective mentoring is an integral component of the doctoral dissertation process. This study aimed to determine psychometric properties two questionnaires developed assess research self-efficacy and mentoring/supervision The sample comprised 1265 doctorate students (mean age = 32.36 years; standard deviation 8.20). Items in both had adequate discrimination indexes principal analysis supported unifactorial structure each questionnaire, with percentages explained variance (47.5% 60%, respectively). Reliability was good or excellent: α 0.71 0.94. In there a significant interaction between gender year studies. Men higher scores first, second third years their studies than women, but this ranking reversed for fourth fifth years. PhD first score those third, years, year. Understanding students’ perception process great importance given relationship academic performance personal well-being.
