Memes, Memes, Everywhere, nor Any Meme to Trust: Examining the Credibility and Persuasiveness of COVID-19-Related Memes

Abstract This study used an experimental design to examine the credibility and persuasiveness of COVID-19-related Internet memes. The a random sample U.S. social media users (N = 1,200) with source as theoretical framework. Results indicate that memes expert attribution are more credible than those nonexpert attribution. same applies Memes objective message tone also persuasive subjective tone. Additionally, there is positive correlation between meme its persuasiveness. Age correlates inversely persuasion pro-mask/vaccine anti-mask/vaccines These results have implications regarding COVID-19 messaging well on meme-based communication.
