Mechanomodulation: Physical Treatment Modalities Employ Mechanotransduction to Improve Scarring
نویسندگان
چکیده
Every year, surgical interventions, traumatic wounds, and burn injuries lead to over 80 million scars. These scars often compromised skin function can result in devastating disfigurement, permanent functional loss, psychosocial problems, growth retardation. Today, a wide variety of nonsurgical scar management options exist, with only few them being substantiated by evidence. The working mechanisms physical anti-scarring modalities remained unclear for many years. Recent evidence underpinned the important role mechanical forces remodeling, especially balance between matrix stiffness cytoskeleton pre-stress. This perspective article aims translate research findings at cellular molecular levels into interventions. Mechanomodulation applied right amplitude, frequency, duration induces ECM remodeling restores ‘tensile’ homeostasis. Depending on characteristics, specific (combinations of) non-invasive treatments are possible. Future studies should be aimed investigating dose-dependent effects define proper guidelines these

Evaluating evidence for atrophic scarring treatment modalities
INTRODUCTION Atrophic scars cause significant patient morbidity. Whilst there is evidence to guide treatment, there does not appear to be a systematic review to analyse the efficacy of treatment options. OBJECTIVES To retrieve all evidence relating to atrophic scar treatment and evaluate using the Clinical Evidence GRADE score in order to allow clinicians to make evidence-based treatment choi...
متن کاملAcne scarring: a review and current treatment modalities.
Acne is a prevalent condition in society and often results in secondary damage in the form of scarring. Of course, prevention is the optimal method to avoid having to correct the physically or emotionally troublesome scars. However, even with the best efforts, scars will certainly arise. This article attempts to give a broad overview of multiple management options, whether medically, surgically...
متن کاملPhysical treatment modalities Pulsed electromagnetic (short-wave) energy therapy
Therapy using pulsed electromagnetic energy is now used widely in the UK and many claims are made regarding its clinical effectiveness. The technique developed about 40 years ago from that of continuous short-wave diathermy, to which it is similar in many respects. There are, however, certain important differences between these therapies that influence significantly their clinical application. ...
متن کاملNutritional status in relation to treatment modalities
The prevalence of disease-related malnutrition in patients with cancer ranges from 40% to 80%, which is the highest of all hospital groups. This variation in prevalence is the result of the different definitions of malnutrition used, and it also depends on tumour type, stage and anticancer treatment. Malnutrition is associated with negative outcome, including increased morbidity, poor prognoses...
متن کاملTreatment Modalities of Obesity
The prevalence of obesity is increasing in both developed and developing countries, with rates reaching 10–35% among adults in the Euro-American region. Obesity is associated with increased risks of cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, arthritis, and some type of cancers. Obesity significantly affects the quality of life and reduces the average life expectancy. The effective treatment of o...
