Mechanics of removing water from the ear canal: Rayleigh–Taylor instability

چکیده
Water stuck in the ear is a common problem during showering, swimming or other water activities. Having trapped canal for long time can lead to infections and possibly result hearing loss. A strategy emptying from shake head, where high acceleration helps remove water. In this present study, we rationalize underlying mechanism of ejection/removal by performing experiments developing stability theory. From experiments, measure critical inside different sizes canals. Our theoretical model, modified Rayleigh–Taylor instability, explain observed which strongly depends on radius canal. The resulting tends increase, especially smaller canals, indicates that shaking heads removal be more laborious potentially threatening children due their small size compared with adults.

A novel method of removing a foreign body from the external ear canal.
To the Editor: A bewildered 7-year-old girl presented with a smooth plastic bead impacted into the right ear canal. On examination the canal was swollen, irritated and tender owing to previous attempts to remove the bead. The bead, measuring 4 mm in diameter, was pushed almost against the eardrum. A further attempt to remove the bead resulted in an agonised yell — further attempts to remove the...

The frog inner ear contains three regions that are sensitive to airborne sound and which are functionally distinct. (1) The responses of nerve fibres innervating the low-frequency, rostral part of the amphibian papilla (AP) are complex. Electrical tuning of hair cells presumably contributes to the frequency selectivity of these responses. (2) The caudal part of the AP covers the mid-frequency p...
