Mechanical Efficiency and Quality Control Preliminary Analysis of Incompletely Bonded Wood-Based Sandwich Panels

Wood-based sandwich panels are building products composed of two skins attached to a lightweight continuous core in which at least one skin is made wood-based products, contributing the use renewable forest goods. Since connection between and often provided by adhesive bonding, its characteristics affect mechanical behavior and, therefore, must be thoroughly assessed. Full adhesion considered standard situation, although some batches commercial product show incompletely glued surfaces, scarce data available with regard their bonding performance. For this reason, analyses were performed using tensile tests load perpendicular specific shear parallel longitudinal direction panel. The test samples obtained from extruded polystyrene cores different materials. proved suitable only for adequate material cohesion, functionality improving as control method when surface percentage assessment used together strength. results non-linear models relating effect properties, revealing that efficiency bonded specimens better than might expected if worked proportion surface, due help adjoining non-glued material.
