Mechanical characterization of P2 bacteriophage by using Young’s modulus measurements

The bacteriophage P2 capsids have been characterized by transmission electron microscopy and atomic force (AFM). Studies carried out on fully filled 2/3 containing dsDNA genomes. In order to get the quantitative information of capsid, a nanoindentation technique depending tip-shape an effective spring constant with homogeneous capsid shell model were adopted. contact region AFM curve in approach mode has used for calculation Young’s moduli as well internal pressures capsids. By using continuum theory elasticity thin shells, phage are measured be 1.17 ± 0.10 GPa 0.87 GPa, respectively. These values close other reported results. Analysis curves also presented that reveals higher pressure than capsid.
