MECHANICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF A POLYESTER MATRIX COMPOSITE REINFORCED WITH NATURAL FIBERS FROM Luffa cylindrica Hoen

The growing demand for renewable products has led to many studies of alternative materials. present work describes the production a composite based in polyester resin reinforced with fibers from climber plant Luffa cylindrica and evaluates its mechanical performance. was produced two perpendicularly-crossed layers vegetable fibers. lamination performed mold glass plates pressed by hydraulic press. To characterize properties composite, density, tensile bending strength tests were performed. final had mean density 1.16 g cm-3, making it light due reinforcement Tensile strengths 13.91 26.70 MPa, respectively. experimental results showed that as lower than pure matrix composites higher itself, although still low.
